A bump to his head just might have saved Doug Moore’s life. Doug had been finishing up a great day on the river with friends when he slipped and hit his head on a rock. He shook it off and went on about his day, but over the next two days he began to experience tremendous dizziness and headed to the Emergency Department at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The good news was that the scans revealed that Doug did not have a fracture, but the bad news…he had a tumor the size of a golf ball. Gary Simonds, M.D., chief of Neurosurgery at the Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences at Carilion Clinic, operated on Doug immediately.
