Carilion Clinic's Research and Development team has been actively pursuing programs and trials that may positively impact the care Carilion's COVID-19 patients receive. One of these trials is for remdesivir, which is an antiviral medication that was previously studied for other viruses like Ebola. By being a part of this clinical program, Carilion providers have an available supply of remdesivir to treat COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms.

“At Carilion we have a supply that comes in semi-regularly from the Virginia Department of Health,” said Melissa White, Infectious Disease pharmacist. ”We’re continuously assessing any patients with COVID-19 who are admitted to the hospital and determining if they are a candidate to receive remdesivir.”
