At a time when it’s safest to stay home to help slow the spread of COVID-19, it’s important to take the proper precautions to help reduce the risk of exposure to yourself and others.

One of the best ways to do this is to use your phone instead of your vehicle to connect with your primary care provider or urgent care.

Our "Seeing You Safely" initiative is growing! In October 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded Carilion Clinic a $1 million grant to expand our telemedicine offerings. This is more important than ever, especially for rural communities where other small community hospitals and medical practices have closed. Click/tap through to learn more about it.

Carilion Clinic has resumed safely providing the full range of preventive and non-emergency care our patients expect and deserve. And now you have more options than ever before to receive that care. Outside of emergencies, start with a phone call to find out if receiving care from home is the best option for you. Many Carilion Clinic providers also use patient portal messaging and telemedicine as options for their patients when more information is needed.

Patient Portals

Patient portals such as MyChart keep you connected with your medical team by allowing you to exchange messages and even photos that relate to clinical inquiries. Through MyChart, you also have secure access to:

  • Lab results
  • Prescription refills
  • Paperless and online bill pay
  • Health history
  • Medical advice and resources
  • Proxy access to view medical records of your children, parents or others whose health you are monitoring

This also reduces the need to travel and improves access for those in remote areas.

Video Visits

Telemedicine can also be helpful when a phone call or patient portal messaging isn’t enough. Video or other virtual visits typically require that you download a HIPAA-compliant app that your provider or health care organization uses; then you can connect with your provider for virtual "office visits" from the safety of your home.

Providing new connections is one of the many ways that Carilion Clinic is keeping our patients and communities cared for and safe.
