Bariatric surgeon Arnold D. (David) Salzberg, M.D. is director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Carilion Clinic, a Bariatric Center of Excellence. He says that obesity can lead to heart disease as well as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, osteoarthritis and even certain cancers.
“Obesity can take years off of your life; we’re talking 10 to 15 years, not just one or two,” said Dr. Salzberg. “It is the second most prevalent cause of preventable death, but unlike many other medical problems, it can be reversed.”

Dr. Salzberg's team works with patients to determine whether a medical or surgical weight-loss approach is right for them.
